1966 Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for Auction. 20.09.2023. Guide Price £1000 - £2000.

For auction on Day 2 of this months sale on Saturday 30th September 2023 is this fantastic Omega watch.

A Video showing the watch working is available at https://youtube.com/shorts/Oh-1u2sVzuI?feature=share

Made famous from the Apollo 11 moon mission, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch was the first watch worn on the moon. earning it a special place in horological history.

In today’s hi tech world of Smartwatches, a reliable wrist watch is not a major consideration however back in the 1960’s a well built watch could be the difference between life and death and that was the thinking of NASA for the Apollo 13 space mission.
Leading up to the United States moon landing, NASA was sourcing the best equipment that it considered safe and reliable to accompany their astronauts to space with backup's and failsafe's the order of the day. NASA wanted their astronauts to take into space a watch able to provide accurate time with a 12hr timing function, distance calculator and speed calculator under the harshest of conditions and tested all of the high end watches of the day for extreme temperatures exposure, simulated changes in gravity, shock resistance, acceleration, decompression, and high pressure. The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch was the only watch to pass all the required tests.
