Large 19th Century Gilt Composition Picture Frame
A substantial and decorative 19th century gilt composition picture frame of rectangular form with an arched inner top edge. The frame features finely cast foliate and scrollwork detailing to the inner and outer borders, typical of the late Victorian period, with a gently stepped profile and broad sight edge.
External dimensions approximately 120cm x 156cm; suitable for artworks or mirrors around 86cm x 122cm (sight size), originally housing a portrait painting.
The frame retains much of its original water-gilded finish, now showing areas of wear and losses to the gesso, particularly along the lower edge and corners. Some small chips and surface scuffs commensurate with age and use. Fitted with later hanging eyelets.
A handsome and imposing frame, ideal for period artwork or as a decorative architectural element.
